Yesterday morning everyone left. Your father joined his office friends/management team for an out of town team building; your lola went to church as usual, where she spends her entire Sunday at, and our helpers – Elsa and Pat, together with your aunt Crystal, went to church. I woke up and saw you still asleep and I went out to check out the dogs and try to prepare a bowl of cornflakes cereals for a quick breakfast. I just had 2 spoons of cereals and then when I came back to our room, I saw that you just woke up. Still a little sleepy and yet smiling to a new day. It never ceases to amaze me that you always wake up with a smile. I pray and hope that it will always be like that for you.
I’m not used to being totally alone in the house with you, since you’re one big bundle of overwhelming energy when you are awake, nonetheless, I gave the helpers permission to go to savor the quality time I’ll have with you. Right after having you take your vitamins, which I’m grateful that you readily obliged, we played and goofed around. You recently developed this fondness to go through the drawers, the shoe racks and the trays and grab anything and then throw it away. I was initially thinking of reprimanding you as your grandma would like to always have it (being so inclined to nagging and spanking as a way of discipline) but then I know it’s not right to do that knowing you’re just a one year old boy and that there will be a time when it will be appropriate to do that. For now, you are a baby and I let you do as you wish. I just went to interfere once in a while when you got hold of something breakable.
When the clock struck 8, I decided it’s time for your breakfast. So I played the movie Cars in our desktop while I re-heat your chicken and macaroni soup in the microwave. I let you watched the movie while eating breakfast. It was great to do those things and I wished that I have more time to do that. After that, we went out to the living room where you went directly to the shoe rack and threw away all the shoes. You were having fun so I let you be, it was sort of a play thing for you and mommy played along. You were gazing at me once in a while and I smiled in approval. It went on for a while and I went ahead and started to heat water for your bath while watching you from a distance. When I felt the need to organize the things we need for your bath and to clean up all the clutter, I played on one of your videoke CDs and tuck you in your stroller.
I was thinking twice of giving you a bath or waiting for the helpers. But then I willed myself to go ahead and do it since I don’t get to do it all the time, and it’s the first time that I will be giving you a bath without anyone assisting me. So after I have prepared all the things that we will need during and after your bath, I bravely took off your seat belt in your stroller took off your clothes and diaper and brought you inside the bathroom. I was praying really hard that my clumsy fingers won’t slip and let you go as accidents can happen. What struck me most was that while I was giving you a bath and I was holding you tightly, well I was actually embracing you, so I got all wet – while I have my right arm wrapped around your torso, you turned your head to look at me. You had a questioning look on your face. I was thinking that you were probably wondering why mommy was the only one giving you a bath when you’re used to having 2 people giving you a bath. I managed to finish it all by myself and I think I’ll start doing it more often. J After doing your after-bath rituals (putting lotion on is your favorite) – lotion, powder, diaper and dressing up, I made you lie down your makeshift bed and then went out the room to prepare a bottle of milk. You startled me by showing up next to me, apparently, you went to follow me. You watched me prepare your milk and after you saw mommy shaking the bottle, I was all the more surprised that you went back to the room as soon as you were sure mom was able to finish making your milk. Then I found you lying down at your spot and clutching at your comfort blanket. I then turned the AC on and gave you your milk.
Then you finally fell asleep after finishing your milk and shortly after your aunt Crystal and the helpers got back from the church. It’s one Sunday I won’t forget, in fact, I might even suggest they do that every Sunday to give us time to bond.
